What you can do
- Visually inspect your trees for hanging or broken branches.
- Look for splits, crack or cavities in the main stem and at branch attachments.
- Carefully look for limbs in contact with power lines and stay clear.
- Inspect the ground around trees for mushrooms and the bark for conchs: this may mean internal decay and lack of integrity in the main trunk.
- Leaning trees may have weakened roots and apply stress to surrounding trees.
- Look for misshapen, discoloured or an abundance of falling leaves.
- Check the bark for tearing, splitting or mechanical damage.
- If you notice one or more of these traits, or if you would prefer a professional assessment, please contact your local arborist for advice.
